When building something that lasts, a good foundation is imperative. The same principle applies when fostering a thriving lawn. The way your lawn looks in the heat of summer is a direct reflection of what was done earlier in the year.
Our philosophy is to lay down these building blocks early by providing a program that starts with a three-pronged approach. Firstly, it is important to eradicate any broadleaf weeds that may have emerged in the winter when they are young and actively growing. We achieve this by using a minimal amount of herbicide. These weeds may include dandelions, clover, and henbit.
As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We also apply a pre-emergent herbicide that will form a barrier in the soil and prevent any weeds such as crabgrass or goosegrass from reaching the surface. In this case, utilizing a reduced amount of herbicide is more effective than attempting to eradicate mature weeds after they have infiltrated the turfgrass.
The third prong in this early foundation for your turf is the application of fertilizer that provides slow and steady feeding to the turfgrass plants. We also include some of the less readily available “micro-nutrients” to provide the building blocks for an overall healthier strand of grass that is less susceptible to environmental extremes.
These early applications carried out by a turfgrass professional are not only safe for the environment but will provide an ecosystem that will filter runoff water better than other plants, increase microbial activity that will impact the environment positively, and finally, look great.
