The Turf Care Process

At Grover, we believe fertilizing is more than just spreading an application on your lawn. See what makes us different.

Designed for you

The slope of your yard, your tree coverage, your flower bed arrangements - we craft a strategic plan to effectively fertilize your yard in as few passes as possible. We value your preferences and any applicable HOA requirements to grow the lawn you envision.

Our custom golf course approach

Grover is local to East Tennessee. Our turf care approach is built on more than
three decades of experience and botanical expertise specific to our climate and growing season.

This is the first of our yearly program that has three applications in one visit.

The First is a grassy/broadleaf weed prevention. This product will form a barrier in the soil, so when weed seeds germinate, they will hit this barrier and not be able to emerge from the soil. Thus, the name pre-emergent.

The second component of this is a post-emergent control that will eliminate any weeds that have emerged during the winter months. These are known mostly as your “broadleaf” weeds such as dandelions, henbit, and clover.

The final application in this round is a fertilizer which is formulated to adhere to the soil and be released to the plants when soil temperatures increase, and grass begins to “green up. This will give your turf the ability to begin to grow both roots and leaf material early and give your lawn the head start it needs.

This second visit is a continuation of the first and is three applications in one.

We once again combine a second application of pre-emergent herbicide to prevent grassy weeds such as crabgrass and goosegrass as well as a second application of post-emergent for any “broadleaf” weeds that may have germinated later.

We also apply a lower rate of Nitrogen slow-release fertilizer for sustained healthy growth as well as a micro-nutrient package to strengthen the roots and leaves of the plant as we move into the summer stress period.

Preventative Fungicide and Insecticide application as well as a fertilizer.

The early Summer is the best time to do a preventative for Grub worms and a preventative for Brown Patch disease.

We also will “spoon feed” a lower rate of Nitrogen as well as a micro-nutrient package to strengthen overall plant health and ensure good color of the turf.

This is a weed control combined with a balanced fertilizer.

Designed to control any of the more noxious weeds that may have broken through the barrier such as crabgrass and the sedge grasses.

We combine the herbicide with a micro- nutrient package for overall plant nutrition as well as an Iron product to keep the plant color a dark green.

Our technicians also use this application to scout for possible insect or disease presence as they often show during times of high stress and can make suggestions as to what form of action to take if any of these challenges are noted.

This is one final scouting and “spot spray” for any grassy and sedge weeds as we head towards cooler temperatures.

We will also provide once again a micro-nutrient fertilizer as well as a lower rate of Nitrogen to start to increase recovery from any summer stress caused by heat and humidity.

A balanced fertilizer and a final application to eradicate “broadleaf weeds.”

This fertilizer will encourage lasting winter color as we move into winter and take care of any weeds that are young and still actively growing.

Fungicides

Summers can be extremely hot and humid in Tennessee, which is the number one cause of turf disease in Fescue grass. Our goal is to make your turf as healthy as possible so that it can resist disease on its own. Still, environmental factors can be so extreme that we can offer preventative and curative measures to deal with these diseases.

Insecticides

As we make your lawn healthier, we also increase its ability to stave off insect infestations. This, too, can be conditional based on yearly environmental differences. If we see higher insect populations, we can once again offer both preventative and curative options that will be safe for the environment and only target the intended pests.

Aeration/Overseed

The fall is the perfect time to aerate and over-seed with a turf-type tall Fescue. This provides seeds for areas that may have become thin from summer stress and relieve soil compaction. Mechanical aeration also improves water infiltration and exchange of gases (oxygen, carbon dioxide) and provides a zone for improved seed-to-soil contact. This is done in conjunction with a starter fertilizer as well.

Safe for play

Grow your dream lawn without worrying about harmful chemicals. Our products are safe for pets and children. For maximum effectiveness, we recommend that your dog stays off the lawn for six hours after we apply treatment.
