The Island in Pigeon Forge

As one of the top-rated attractions in Tennessee, The Island offers affordable family fun with unique retail, dining, and entertainment experiences. When The Island needed help with their landscaping, they called Bright Grove.

the dilemma

Microclimate inhibiting visitor experience

Known for its iconic Great Smoky Mountain Ferris Wheel and award-winning Margaritaville hotel, The Island is one of the premier destinations in Pigeon Forge. With an estimated 10 million people vacationing in the area each year, beautiful landscaping is a vital component of crafting the visitor experience — but it’s challenging to keep up with flower installations on a bustling 23-acre property.

The Island Show Fountains had a particular problem: Chlorine from the water combined with near-constant exposure to direct sunlight was killing the existing plants. The fountain’s position had essentially created a unique microclimate for the surrounding flower beds, and the result was wilting stems instead of full blooms.

Solution

Strategic soil and irrigation method.

Bright Grove immediately went to work by conducting soil studies and testing to better understand what kinds of flowers could thrive around the fountain. Our team removed old flower installations and pulled up invasive weeds. We also worked with The Island team to strategize irrigation solutions that would benefit plants without creating a visual distraction.

the Reward

An eye catching centerpiece.

Today, we’re proud to see thriving flowers, bushes, and trees adding color and definition around The Island’s famous centerpiece. Our custom-designed installations are better suited to the unique soil composition, and our specialized horticulture teams make regular visits to maintain the beds and prune the new growth.
